Cardiac Cath Lab
Located at Shands at the University of Florida, we provide comprehensive care to cardiac patients undergoing both invasive and non-invasive procedures. Patients at all acuity levels are treated in adult coronary/peripheral, heart failure, electrophysiology and pediatric. Our team consists of registered nurses, cardiovascular technologists and other specialists and works within our five procedure rooms and 10-bed observation unit.
Our registered nurses work within a 1:1-4 nurse/patient ratio and are expected to deliver quality care while performing certain tasks:
- Cath site management
- IV insertion and titration of vasoactive drips
- IV fluid management
- Neurological assessment
- Patient/family education and support
- Procedural documentation
- Respiratory management (including pulse oximetry and oxygen therapy)
- Safety precautions
- Sedation level monitoring
