Nursing Administration Practicum

This innovative two-day preceptorship was created to build awareness of the goals and functions of nursing administration at Shands at the University of Florida. All staff registered nurses are eligible to participate in a program schedule that will include the following:

• Shadowing the vice president of nursing, director of nursing or a nurse manager
• Reading materials provided to at the beginning of practicum experience
• Participating in meetings with their assigned preceptor
• Completing a small project under the direction of their preceptor, with the goal of benefiting the nursing practice on an individual unit or the nursing division as a whole

By the end of the practicum, it is expected that registered nurses will have a deeper awareness, understanding and appreciation of the nursing administration function, as well as the qualities that identify a leader within our organization.
